Gumlog Spam and Virus Filtering Features
Virus FilteringYour gumlog.net email account includes free automatic virus filtering.
Emails which contain viruses and other malicious programs are automatically blocked from entering your mailbox;
whenever a virus-infected email arrives addressed to you, the email is automatically routed to
a special confinement area, and we notify you that we blocked an email addressed to you which contains a virus.
We keep the blocked emails for up to ten days, after which the virus-infected email is automatically deleted from our system.
Please note that our virus filtering features only stop viruses from entering your computer through your gumlog mail. There are many
other ways that viruses can be introduced into your computer - for complete protection of your computer, you should install
a desktop antivirus solution. See the links below for our recommendations.
Your gumlog.net email account includes free automatic spam filtering.
Our email systems inspect each and every email you receive, to determine if the email is "spam" according to rules that we have set. Some emails that we are sure are spam are automatically deleted or prevented from entering our system; the rest of the emails that we identify as spam, but that we are not certain of, are automatically routed to a special "junkmail" folder set up for you within our email system. You can access this special foder by logging on to our "webmail" system; at the top right of the webmail screen, select "junkmail" from the list of folders, and then click on the "Open Folder" link to the right.
Each spam mail is marked with a "score" in the heading of the mail, indicating the degree to which our system has assessed the email as "spam". Unfortunately, because what is spam mail to one customer is legitimate mail to another customer, our spam filter will occasionally make mistakes, either letting some spam through, or (more rarely) classifying legitimate mail as spam. If legitimate mail is trapped as spam, you will still have access to the mail for up to ten days after it arrived in your "junkmail" folder. Mail left in your junkmail folder after ten days will be assumed to be "confirmed" spam, and will be deleted.
You should notice a significant drop in the amount of spam you receive as a result of our filtering techniques. However, should you require additional spam filtering functionality, there are several programs that you can purchase for your desktop computer that will allow you to customise spam filters for the spam that does get through our systems.
